Freida McFadden is one of the biggest names in psychological thrillers right now, and for good reason. She’s known for weaving wild plot twists that make you question everything, and she does it consistently well. You always know a sharp turn is coming, yet she still manages to deliver it at the most unexpected moment. Just when you think you’ve figured everything out, Freida hits you like a freight train with a bombshell reveal. This book definitely follows that familiar pattern.

Abby longs for nothing more than to be a mother, and after exhausting all her available options, she believes she’s reached the end of the line – until her secretary, Monica, offers to be her surrogate. Abby invites Monica into her home to meet her husband, conducts thorough interviews with people from Monica’s past, and does everything she can to ensure no detail is overlooked. But despite all her careful planning, can she truly know whether Monica can be trusted with the baby she’s wanted for so long?

This is a very typical Freida McFadden book, and the twists feel earned thanks to narration that’s heavy with suspense and rooted in maternal instinct. The story isn’t especially realistic – I mean, it could happen, but it’s extremely unlikely. That said, these books are meant purely for entertainment, and they always deliver on that front.

As for the ending, I did walk away with a few unanswered questions, but I don’t want to dive too deeply into that since I try to keep my reviews as spoiler-free as possible.

If you’re a regular “Freida reada” as they say, or someone who hasn’t read her work yet but you love a good thriller, this one is worth picking up. Many of her books are available on Kindle Unlimited, which makes her one of my go-to authors whenever I need a quick fix of suspense.
